Dramatic clouds at Whytecliff Park

Not only did we see an amazing number of species at Whytecliff Park today, but those clouds put on a show as well.

Whytecliff Park animals

We always have a good time at Whytecliff Park – no matter what the weather is like or what animals we see.

Today we were lucky to see the usual seagulls and crows but also bald eagles, harbour seals, sea lions, and harbour porpoise. A really great day which ended with an amazing sunset over Bowen Island.

Short stop at Whytecliff Park

On our way back driving along the Sea to Sky Highway, we just had to stop at Whytecliff Park to relax a little, maybe see some wildlife and definitely enjoy a gorgeous sunset. And that is all we did!

What an amazing way to end this beautiful day!

Always something to see at Whytecliff Park

We spent some time before and after sunset at Whytecliff Park today where we saw lots of birds, sea lions, and harbour porpoises – and we had a most beautiful sunset, too.

Tiny porpoises, big waves

Today there was a slightly stronger wind that brought more waves with it – and so it looked as if the the tiny harbour porpoises we saw were swallowed by the larger waves.

So much wildlife at Whytecliff Park

While enjoying some relaxing time at Whytecliff Park, we saw a lot of wildlife around us.

There was one inquisitive crow which walked along the cliff and kept looking at us.
We also spotted a beautiful pair of harlequin ducks swimming by. And, of course, we also saw harbour seals, sea lions, and harbour porpoises.

Last rays of sunshine

What a beautiful sunset at the end of a gorgeous sunny day!

Whytecliff Park at sunset

Together with some friends we once again went to Whytecliff Park hoping to see some harbour porpoises there.

Well, we saw some wildlife – seagulls, double-crested cormorants, and harbour seals, but where were the porpoises?

Finally, long after sunset, we spotted five harbour porpoises travelling towards Horseshoe Bay.
Seeing these amazing animals was so worth the wait.

I can’t wait to be back!

Porpoises at Whytecliff Park

In the late afternoon we went to Whytecliff Park in the hope to see some harbour porpoises – or at least a single individual – at around sunset.

Luckily for us, they really showed up! We spotted about four or five of them, foraging not too far away from our viewpoint.

Later, after sunset, we could still hear their puffing sounds when breathing but it became more and more difficult to spot them in the water. They are so well-camouflaged!

Harbour porpoises are such amazing animals. I simply cannot get enough of them!
